So, It’s been a while

Hi.

It’s been a while since we last spoke, hasn’t it? It’s my fault, really. I’ve not been writing like I should, and I’ve been calling in to question my devotion to be a writer.

Don’t worry, the blog isn’t ending. I’m just having an emo moment or two. As you read this, I’m probably landing in LaGuardia (if my flight hasn’t been delayed) since I’ll be in Staten Island for a wedding this weekend. Go me.

I can’t say for certain when I’ll be updating again. I do have stuff written, but it’s nothing I would post here. I hate the way I write NSFW scenes, and all of it is NSWF. Perhaps I’ll fix that one day, but I am FAR too shy to try.

Again, I’m sorry I haven’t been posting, but I figured I owed you guys and gals an update.

Thanks for reading. Maybe my confidence will come back soon.

Erratic posting

Hey everyone!

There’s a few things going on that have started to interfere with my schedule. We’re apartment hunting, the roommate is graduating soon, and we might have a second roommate join us soon. So that posting schedule I had has gone out the window. Updates are going to be sporadic for the next few weeks, possibly more. I’ll see if I can have something upĀ  by Friday, but I make no promises.

Sorry for the late notice. I’m usually more active on twitter or tumblr since they don’t require much effort.

Recipie Monday: Squash Casserole

Alternatively titled: I didn’t write anything over the weekend, so have a copy of my lunch for the next few days.

I’m pretending you don’t know how to cook, so work with me here.

What you will need:

  • 3-5 large-ish yellow squash
  • 1 onion
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 2 packages of shredded mild cheddar cheese (~4 cups if you want to shred your own, cause you have a dairy farm for that reason.)
  • Large pan (fit for baking)
  • Steamer basket
  • Italian Bread crumbs
  • A sharp knife

How it goes:

  1. Clean squash by running hot water over them
  2. Cut all the squash into even-ish pieces, removing the ends from both…ends; I cut round pieces, you can cut however you want. (I don’t judge.)
  3. Place all squashy bits in the steamer basket.
  4. Remove flaky bits off the onion and toss em away.
  5. CUT THE ENDS OFF THE ONION FROM UNDER RUNNING WATER, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. THIS WILL PREVENT YOU FROM CRYING, I’M SAVING YOU FROM THE PAIN.
  6. DON’T TURN THE WATER OFF, YOU’RE NOT DONE.
  7. Slice the onion in half UNDER THE WATER.
  8. Now you can turn the water off.
  9. Slice your onion halves into tinier bits and place them in the steamer basket.
  • Note: if not all of the squash or onions fit into the basket, you can steam a second batch separately.
  1. Steam the veggies until you can see the steam escaping from underneath the lid.
  • If you needed to steam a second batch, this would be the time to steam it now.
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350. We probably should have done that first, but fuck the rules.
  2. Dump the steamed squashy bits and tiny onion slices into your large pan.
  3. Season with salt and pepper (to taste)
  4. Add package of cheese, mix generously.
  • If you needed to steam a second batch, add only half the package. Add the other half when the veggies are done and mix again
  1. Mix in some of the bread crumbs while you’re at it. (~1/4 of a cup? I dunno, I eyeballed it.) The squash should look beaten all to hell at this point, which is a good thing.
  2. Once throughly mixed, open the second package of cheese and add all of it on top.
  3. I SAID ALL OF IT. DON’T YOU SKIMP OUT ON ANYTHING.
  4. All added? Are you sure? Maybe you should check…
  5. Okay, it’s all been added.
  6. BREAD CRUMB LAYER TIME.
  7. Once the oven indicates that it’s ready, BAKE IT. About 20 minutes should do it, or until the top is a golden brown color. Unless it’s my oven, in which case it’ll NEVER be ready.
  8. EAT IT. (after it’s cool, of course.)

Om nom nom nom, it’s very delicious, I promise. You can use Vegan cheese in place of actual cheese, but vegan cheese does not like to melt properly, or at least the one time I tried it didn’t.

Enjoy, you crazy kids.

A bit of a dilemma

I find myself in a bit of a quandary, which is why there was no post on Monday. It’s not the lack of ideas, but rather what feels like a lack of originality on my part.

I feel as if the stories that I come up with are all eventually turning in the same direction, with the same ending, and its a cut and paste protagonist from a different story. I think I just need a refresher; do a sprint using a prompt rather than an idea straight from my head.

Or maybe talking it out helps. And by talking, I mean spilling my soul/troubles on you guys & gals. I think that’s the best form of therapy sometimes.

Sorry its a short post today, but this took forever to write. (At least an hour! That’s ridiculous!) I kept wandering away to do other things that I shouldn’t be doing. Like looking at tumblr; god damn you tumblr, you are so distracting. Expect a better post on Friday.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for sticking with me.

That was not my month

First, its problems with my car; got that fixed thanks to a bailout from the bank of Mom. Then MORE problems with the car (bad sensor) which also got fixed. Then the PARENTS have massive problems with one of their cars and both computers, which resulted in a new engine, catalytic converter, a new desktop, and a new laptop.

Windows 8 and old people get along surprisingly well.

So I’ve had a busy week. The rest of today and tomorrow aren’t looking too good either, but next week looks better.

We’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming on Monday. In the meantime, have a picture of an Eastern Screech Owl (Grey Morph) that was chillin’ out underneath my parent’s porch.

mystery owl

He was quite cranky.

How’s your week going?

Mine started out with the catalytic converter being stolen out of my car last Saturday. Hence no post on Monday. All I wanted to to on Saturday was eat some goddamn Chinese food, play Xbox, and have a relaxing weekend.

No. I was not allowed to. Instead, I spent the rest of the weekend and into Monday at my parents house (hence no blog post). I’ve at least managed to procure a very swanky rental car on Wednesday so I have transport until my car is fixed.

Thank you, insurance company for being awesome.

I’ll make it up to you with a 3-a-week update starting this coming Monday. I’ll run it for two/three weeks since I’ve crapped out on you guys for that long. But for now, have a conversation with aliens. Continue reading

Where the heck have you been?!

Good lord, I keep forgetting to update this. I am a horrible, forgetful person.

Here’s kind of an update on what’s been happening (nothing major, I swear):

  • Reworking: I’ve been r-working some characters in my major story (that’s still untitled) and in my minor story of Atlanta. I’ve changed some things around, edited their back stories and decided to NOT reinvent the wheel (although that is fun to do).
  • Retooling: Speaking of wheels, I finally settled on a place to put everyone (yay!). I’ve also kind of figured out a time line for the overall story, and a back story that leads into the main story (again, yay!)
  • Rewriting: I like my beginning, but it needs some help to be less… fanfic-y sounding. I’m also trying to flesh out the characters a little bit more, give them some motivation behind their actions, and answer the ever burning question: why should Anya leave the farm? (Just don’t do it like Dorothy did.)

So that’s been it on my end of things. I’ve been super forgetful this past week, but I’ll have another blog up on Friday. My aim is to get back on track with updates and keep writing (obviously). I’ve been getting a little bit better about not playing the Xbox and spending all of my time on tumblr.

Not that I’ve been spending all of my time on tumblr.
